RSC vs tuck-top mailer vs reverse-tuck carton

Use an RSC shipping box when you need tape-sealed stacking strength, a tuck-top mailer when unboxing and presentation matter, and a reverse-tuck folding carton when the product is a bottle, jar or tall retail pack that needs a snug sleeve.

Three dies, three jobs

PackWorks stocks all three styles as corrugated or paperboard cartons in stock sizes. The style decision is about closure, stacking and how the customer opens the pack — not about which one “looks more premium” in isolation.

RSC (regular slotted carton)

Four flaps meet at the centre; you seal with BOPP tape. This is the Indian logistics default: cheapest per cube, strongest when stacked, available from jewellery flats to export sizes in 3-ply and 5-ply. There is no fancy open — the courier and the warehouse are the audience.

Tuck-top mailer

A tray with a hinged lid that tucks in and often ear-locks. Ships flat, assembles without tape, and photographs well. Best for D2C, cosmetics, accessories and gifting. Stacking strength is lower than a taped RSC of the same board — do not use a shallow mailer as a warehouse pallet layer.

Reverse-tuck folding carton

Tall or slim sleeve with tuck ends — the classic bottle, pharma and spice carton. Product slides in; flaps tuck. Ideal when length is the long axis (oils, syrups, pouches on edge). Pair fragile bottles with void fill or a shipper overbox for courier lanes.

FAQ

Questions this guide answers

Can a mailer replace an RSC for Flipkart FBM?

Yes for light, snug SKUs. If the carton will be stacked in a dark store or tempo, prefer an RSC.

Do reverse-tuck cartons need tape?

Usually not for retail handoff. For courier, add a clear tape strip or an outer shipper if the tuck can pop.

Which style can I logo-print from 500 pcs?

All three on PackWorks stock dies — see the custom print guide for MOQ and lead time.
