Measuring for the right box
Should I measure my product or my current box?
Measure the product (or the product in its retail box) at its widest points. Then add 0.25 inch per side for a snug fit or 0.5–1 inch if you use bubble wrap, paper fill or an insert.
Are box sizes inner or outer dimensions?
All PackWorks sizes are inner dimensions. Outer dimensions are roughly 0.25 inch larger per side for 3-ply and 0.5 inch for 5-ply — relevant when your courier bills by volumetric weight.
Why does a tighter fit save money?
Couriers charge on the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight (L × W × H ÷ 5000 in cm). A box that is 2 inches too big on each side can double the billed weight on a lightweight product.
What if nothing fits?
Our largest stock carton is 24 × 18 × 18 inch. For anything bigger, or for an exact fit at volume, we make custom sizes from 500 pieces.
